CSS Checker – Check Redundancy In CSS File

CSS i.e. Cascading Style Sheets are used to create dynamic HTML pages for websites. HTML is static webpage development language. To make it dynamic CSS is used that modifies the content of the webpage on the basis of request or action by the user. CSS are used by embedding their special files, called stylesheets with extension “.css”, in the html file.  When CSS is used there is always a chance of many unused or redundant selectors present in the stylesheet. This becomes a very ominous task for the developer to remove all the redundant selectors manually.

To solve this problem of removal of redundant selectors from the CSS file, CSS Checker is developed. It is an online application that finds all the redundant selectors from the selected stylesheet. It scans the stylesheet thoroughly and determines all the redundant selectors that are not used in any of the HTML file in the corresponding web application.

Steps of Procedure to use this Site

  1. Enter your stylesheet URL and its associated HTML pages
  2. Click the ‘Check’ button.
  3. Scanning result shows all the redundant selectors in the stylesheet.
  4. Remove all the unwanted selectors without any problem.

CSS checker is a simple and easy to use online web tool that allows you to check redundancy in your CSS file. Redundant information in a stylesheet increases overhead on the application as the redundant information is compiled again and again. This web application reduces this overhead. It helps you to clean and optimize your css files and you can scan as many css files as you want. This website is absolutely free to use and does not require any sign up. The user can use this application as many times as they want. But the problem with this application is that is does not work with files containing JavaScript as it is not able to recognize JavaScript and therefore it shows certain selectors as redundant simply because they don’t appear in the JavaScript manipulated HTML.

Editor’s View

CSS checker is a good web application that makes work, of many web developers, much simple by checking and enabling user to remove all the redundant selectors in a CSS file. It’s an easy to use and simple web application with an even simpler and lightweight GUI for the user. But its inability to read and recognize the JavaScript makes it non profitable for more dynamic pages as today JavaScript is very much part of web development. So it’s a good application only for simple HTML pages with some CSS involved in it.
