According to the United Nations, a child dies every 6 seconds from hunger related causes. Shocked!!! is a website which gives you a perfect platform to contribute to the society and make a difference. Don’t write it off as yet another website asking you to donate generously for the underprivileged people. FreeRice is a unique non- profit website which educates you and in this learning process you get involved in ending hunger in the world.

FreeRice provides you interesting and easy way to enhance your knowledge on subjects like English, Geography, Chemistry, and Math. Not only this, you can also learn new languages like French, German, Italian, and Spanish. For all the art enthusiasts, there is a subject Art where you will be quizzed on Famous Paintings of world renowned painters.

Now, the question arises how this fun game of learning diverse things helps the society at large. The website uses a simple concept that for each answer the learner gets right, 10 grains of rice is donated through the UN World Food Program to help end hunger. Isn’t this an impressive and no- frills- attached business model which endeavors at ending the huge problem of hunger deaths? Though 10 grains of rice may seem like a small amount, you will be surprised to know that FreeRice has generated enough rice to feed millions of people.

The home page will have the English Vocabulary questions and you can choose the subject of your choice by clicking the Subjects tab. You can start playing Freerice game by clicking the right answer from the four options.    FreeRice automatically adjusts to your level. It starts by giving you questions of increasing difficulty and then, based on how you do, assigns you an approximate starting level. You then determine a more exact level for yourself as you play. The logic used is when you get a question wrong, you go to an easier level. When you get three questions in a row right, you go to a harder level.

Here is the brief history of this innovative and philanthropic website. FreeRice was founded in October 2007 by John Breen. In March 2009 Mr. Breen donated the site to the UN World Food Program. Free rice has two prime noble motives of helping to feed and educate as many people as possible throughout the world. Astonishing amounts of donations have been made till date which can be viewed by clicking on Totals tab. It speaks volumes about the success of this website.

The website is very user friendly and it can be used by people of all ages and backgrounds. You can watch the video showing the distribution of free rice and also install the FreeRice toolbar. So, all those students who want to improve their CAT/SAT/GRE/GMAT scores and the professionals who feel tongue tied because of poor vocabulary, here is an excellent website to learn and save the world from hunger. So folks across the world, play the guilt- free FreeRice online game and improve life with a click of mouse!!!
