How To Enable Email & Chat Desktop Notification Service On Your Gmail Account

Are you using Gmail in Chrome browser? If yes, then you must be interested in the new desktop notification service of new Email and Chat messages. It is not possible to keep an eye on Gmail for new message or Chat Pings, this desktop notification allows Gmail to display popup notification on your desktop when new chat or email message arrives.

You must have experienced this while using GTalk whenever you get any ping you get a popup notification window on your desktop which help you not to miss any message. This is the reason people like to use GTalk rather than integrated Gmail chat option. But now you can enjoy this feature on your chrome browser.

Let me take you to the steps which will help you to enable or disable email or Chat notifications:

  • Click the Settings link in the upper-right corner of Gmail and scroll down to the Desktop Notifications
  • On the General tab, select the option you’d like in the Desktop Notifications section. You’ll be able to turn Chat notifications on or off, and can also choose to turn email notifications off, receive notifications for all incoming email, or only those Gmail marks ‘important’.
  • Click Save.

At present only Chrome browser users can avail this facility but according to Google, it’ll soon will available for other browsers like IE, Safari, Firefox etc.

Now you don’t need to switch Gmail window to see if you got new message or not, or you’ve important chat conversations with your friends. All they will appear in the pop-up window in any tab.
