Serverfault.com – Question Answer Site For System Administrators and IT professionals

Filed under: Education — Gagan @ 1:37 am

Server fault is a web site that provides the web service of Q&A site for system administrators and IT professionals that’s free. Free to ask questions, free to answer questions, free to read, free to index, built with plain old HTML, no fake rot13 text on the home page, no scammy Google-cloaking tactics, no salespeople. You can register if you want but otherwise, it’s just free. And fast. Very, very fast.

No one runs Server Fault. You do. Server Fault is collaboratively built and maintained by your fellow system administrators and IT professionals. Once the system learns to trust you, you’ll be able to edit anything, much like Wikipedia.

With your help, they can build good answers to every question a system administrator or IT professional might have. No matter what types of servers or desktops you administer, or what operating systems you happen to call home — getting better at what we do, together, is the goal

This service is as frictionless and painless to use as one could make it. They believe finding the right answer to those system administration and IT questions should be as easy as falling into the pit of success. And maybe even a little fun along the way.

Well, as long as the question is about your servers, your networks, or desktops you support you are welcome here. Please note that Server Fault is not for general computer troubleshooting questions; if you paid for that desktop hardware, and it’s your personal workstation, it is unlikely that your question is appropriate for Server Fault.

Reputation is completely optional; normal use of Server Fault – asking and answering questions – does not require any reputation whatsoever. If you want to help run Server Fault, you’ll need reputation first. Reputation is a (very) rough measurement of how much the Server Fault community trusts you. Reputation is never given, it is earned by convincing other Server Fault users that you know what you’re talking about.

Well, there’s nothing special about this site, really. It’s a Q&A website for system administrators and IT professionals. The only unusual thing they do is synthesize aspects of Wikis, Blogs, Forums, and Digg/Reddit in a way that is somewhat original.
