You must have heard about a unique program launched by The Time Of India “Teach India Program”. I heard about it yesterday on FM during my journey from a friends house. It sound interesting to me and when read about it, I find it worth sharing with my readers too. The Times of India’s has received tremendous response to this unique initiative in the past two years. It gives an opportunity to every Indian who was fortunate enough to get adequate education. This program is being launched for the second time by TOI with the confidence of teaching spoken English to the underprivileged youth.

This unique program bring  you the opportunity to go out and teach. This social initiative brings together youth in need of spoken English and people who can contribute time towards teaching them. This website is being launched to make people aware and more volunteers to come forward and make this initiative successful.

Teach India 2010 focuses on teaching only spoken English to underprivileged youth in the urban society who are in the age group of 18-32 and who have had basic introduction to the English language in school. The British Council has come forward for designing a customized curriculum especially for this program which will help the volunteers to make them learn with a defined pace.
Teach India 2010 is inviting applications online via the “Volunteer Application Form”.  For which Volunteers will need to register first with an individual username and password. A Sample of the Form is right below:

Then  select the preferred teaching location, class timing and the training centre.

The initiative aspires to involve as many volunteers as possible to teach spoken English to the learners. Spoken English classes will be held in the NGO premises. Three to four batches will be held in a day of two hours each and there will be 20 learners in each of the batches. Overall the program will be flexible about the class timings and they vary with different NGOs. below is a sample schedule:

Volunteers can choose any of the above batches for teaching. Since the spoken English classes will run 6 days in a week over a 12 week period, It is been planned for two volunteers to teach one batch on alternate days. Thus every volunteer will have to take classes for approximately 72 hours spread over three months. Here ’ The Times Of India’ is acting as a facilitator to ensure that they will be there with you through out 3 months that you offer to this program. So, channelize your passion for a literate India. Teach India.
